Three More Days Until. . .

The Hollister Freedom Rally!

Over this Fourth of July weekend, the number of people in Hollister shall be nearly threefold, if not more, as bikers from all over California, the United States, and even the world rumble in to visit the Birthplace of the American Biker

Lots of activities are planned for this free three-day event, from Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 5.

Touring Vietnam Veterans Memorial
The Touring Vietnam Veterans Memorial, hosted by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion branches, will be arriving on Thursday afternoon. It'll be set up at Dunne Park on Seventh Street. For more details, check out this article

Illusions in Santa Ana Valley

Doesn't it look like the mountain is fenced off? And, that the mountain is quite nearby? For that matter, are those really mountain peaks?

I'm on Santa Ana Valley Road looking up at the Diablo Range through a fence, on which the other side rows of corn are growing.

See you tomorrow.

The SBC Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo Parade!

It was a perfect summer evening for the San Benito County Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo Parade. Geri Johnson, retiring Hollister City Clerk, was the Grand Marshal of the parade that kicks off the 82nd annual event at Bolado Park this weekend.

The parade had horses and rodeo royalty, community figures and groups, school kids and youth groups, singers and bands, and more. Here's just a sampling of the participants.

I'm sharing this post at Friday My Town Shoot Out, a new meme for me. Every week participants post photo around a theme, which this week is the color red. And, there was a lot of red in yesterday evening's parade.  Click here to check out posts from bloggers around the world.

Thrills Galore at the Hollister Airshow

This past weekend was the annual Hollister Airshow with amazing aerobatic pilots, fighter jet pilots, and motorcycle stunt riders. The Husband and I also saw displays of vintage aircraft and cars, as well as remote-controlled model airplanes. There are no words that can express the awesomeness of what went on. So, here are some photos for you.

A Field of Bell Peppers

I spotted another Ag in Classroom sign on McCloskey Road. This one is for the Filice Farms. To see more signs that honor our local farmers, check this link.

A Sunday Flashback: Waiting for the Bus

When I was a first grader in 1960, I had to wait for the bus at the corner of Shore Road and San Felipe Road, across from Dunneville Market, in front of old rumble-tumble abandoned buildings. A lot of times I was by myself. It could get pretty spooky for a kid with a crazy imagination.

Vintage Cars

Every now and then I see a pretty nifty old car or truck parked or going down a street in Hollister. If I could have one, I'd like a 1950s Ford pick-up truck, because my dad once owned one and I enjoyed hanging out in the back as he drove along. Yup, those were the days.

If you're into old cars, check out the Hollister Airshow this weekend, where there will be a vintage car display. And, on July 18, 2015 is the annual Hollister Street Festival, Car Show & Swap Meet.

The Attitude of a Reflected Image

Check out the reflection of the Veterans' Building in the windows of the Attitudes & Images Salon on San Benito Street. You might say that the reflected image has a pretty cool attitude.
