A Magnificent Autumn Canopy

Did you know that some of those trees lining the residential part of San Benito Street are magnolia trees? Yesterday, the Husband and I sat under the canopy of one of the trees while we watched the Veterans Day Parade.  Simply delightful!

A Balcony and a Tower

The balcony and the tower on the main building at San Benito High School have always been my favorite features of that building.  Whenever I glanced at them when I was a student there many years ago, I felt like I was in another world.

The school's oldest building was built around 1910. Some people say they may have been designed by W.H. Weeks, a popular architect who created the building plans for many schools, libraries, and residences in Central and Northern California.

More Rain, Please.

Here was the afternoon calm in Downtown Hollister after the steady showers we had on Monday. Right now, the weather guys are reporting a 50% chance of rain for tomorrow. Knock on wood.

A Happy Palm Tree

Isn't that a gorgeous palm tree? It's huge, too. Quite huge. The Husband and I came across it as we were walking through Briggs Alley the other day. I like how it happily waves over the fences.

Floating Downward in Tres Pinos

"What's that noise?"

Last Sunday afternoon, the Husband and I looked upward for the source of the fluttering sound. We saw a bunch of solo and tandem skydivers floating towards their drop spot in the field across from the Immaculate Conception Church in Tres Pinos. 

I remember my own downward journey through the sky several years ago quite well, thank you very much. It was amazing way up there in the sky. Definitely, though, skydiving is not for everyone. But, if you're interested, Skydive Hollister is located at the Hollister Airport.

The Soon-to-Be Memory of a Fair View

The first of the 1,100 houses are going up in the Santana Ranch above Fairview Road, between Hillcrest and Sunnyslope. Enjoy the open-space view while you can.

Handsome Old Oak Tree

This handsome oak tree—a blue oak, I think—hangs out in the parking lot in front of the Bolado Park Pavilion.  It's one of several mature oak trees throughout the park. I wonder how old it is.

Character and Beauty

This old metal structure sits on the hill above Highway 25 across from Bolado Park.  Its character caught my eye, as well as the beauty of it alone on the hill.

Beautiful Clouds

Yesterday afternoon the clouds were very impressive and much expressive in the brilliant blue sky. They gave us quite a show.  This view is of the hill above Enterprise Road.

Rain Delivered!

These grey clouds yesterday afternoon multiplied and intensified to give us rain last night! Whooo-hooo! 

It rained through the night. Yaaay!

We even had some rain this morning. Who knows, we may have more today. Hurrah!

Another View of Hollister

Yesterday afternoon while rocking out to the Moondance Band with friends in Dunne Park, I turned and saw this sight.  For a moment, I thought I was in a Swiss Alps village or some place like that.

That's the church on the corner of Monterey and Sixth street. The peak? Santa Ana Mountain.

Up Close — The Five Palms

From nearly everywhere you look in Downtown Hollister, you can see the five palm trees that mark the once-upon-a-time baseball field. It wasn't until the other day that I checked them out at their home base by the old train depot on Prospect Avenue.

Another Interesting Sky

This was late afternoon while walking in the neighborhood across from Sunnyslope School. Amazing sky, don't you think?

The Rock-Eating Monster

The Husband says this huge monstrous system grinds up gravel. I've never gone by it when it's working. Be kinda cool to see the monster in action. It's near McCray Street, south of Hillcrest Road.

San Juan Bautista has many lovely trees of all sorts up and down its sweet, quaint streets.

Time to Go Home

As I was riding my bicycle yesterday, I noticed the goats on Enterprise Road. Of course, I had to stop and photos. I watched a black and white goat for a while. It was apart from the others, gazing up at the barn. It took a few steps up the hill, stopped, walked a few more steps, stopped. Then, slowly it made its way up the hill as if drawn by some alluring music.

When I looked at this photo hours later, I noticed goats hanging out in the shade of the barn and in the fenced area to the side. Maybe the black and white goat was missing its partner. One can imagine.
