A Bene Sky

We hadn't seen a tempestuous rainfall as we did last weekend in a long time. Maybe some of you heard about the flooding in Hollister which actually made national, news.  A creek flooded about 10 miles north of downtown in a rural area, causing more than 100 residents, with their pets, horses, and other small animals, to evacuate.  All is getting back towards normal, as far as I've heard.

In the photo, the sign for San Benito Bene also speaks well of the sky above downtown Hollister a few days ago. Yup, we've had delightful sunshine. Just enough to get us ready for this next one, which some weather guys say will start tomorrow and continue to possibly next Tuesday.

Where ever you are, dear Take 25 to Hollister readers,  may you be warm and dry.

I Spy . . . the First Biker through the Gate

I spy with my little eye the first biker to rumble down San Benito Street when the gates to the 2016 Hollister Independence Rally officially opened this morning.  This annual biker rally is a three-day event, ending on Sunday, July 3.

Thousands of bikers are expected to descend onto our small city, which some bikers describe as the Birthplace of the American Biker. If you want to know how our town got that designation, click here.

Admission to the rally is free. There shall be lots of food and drink, activities, and three stages for bands and other live entertainment. For details, head over to the Hollister Independence Rally web site.

Slow Down!

It's starting to look quite festive in Downtown Hollister, despite the cars and trucks zooming down San Benito Street. Slow down, people.

Yesterday evening, for nearly an hour, the Husband and I watched the traffic on our main street. We were alarmed at how fast the vehicles traveled in both directions.  A downtown business owner told us it's like that even during the day. We've also heard that some people have had scary experiences crossing San Benito Street.

The City of Hollister has a plan to help slow down the traffic and make downtown be a pedestrian-friendly place. That would be also great for the shops and restaurants down there. Not to say for bringing future businesses to downtown. This traffic plan is ready to go, from what I understand. Hopefully the execution of it won't drag on too long. Otherwise, San Benito Street continues to be a drag strip.
