Taking Old Stagecoach Road was one of the ways that people could get between San Juan Bautista and Salinas. Today, the three mile stretch from San Juan Bautista to the Salinas side is now known as the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail.
It's a wonderful hike. A bit (okay a lot) strenuous if you aren't used to walking steadily uphill for more than a mile. It's about another mile to the crest, although that climb isn't so harsh. Now, if you're in awesome shape, the hike up and down is nothing. Me, ouch, my aching knees on the way down. All worth it.
This is beautiful. I feel like I can smell...Europe.

ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time I rode a train through a part of Italy (just above Florence) that reminded me so much of California. And, then a couple year ago, we were hiking around Los Altos Hills, above Santa Clara Valley, and it made me think that this was what it would be like to be hiking in Europe. :-)
As a busy Mom, and Nature lover I'm always looking for something fun for my family to do!! My husband and I took our 5 year old on the hike and we had such a wonderful time! He enjoyed counting all the unique mini rock formations we saw along the way! Afterwards we strolled downtown SJB! I would have never found the trail on my own! Thank you for sharing...it was a perfect day for us!
