Hollister, California is a real town that has been around since the 1870s. Unlike the fictional town created by a corporate clothing company, Hollister is no where near a beach. The town is about 45 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Seagulls occasionally make their way over the mountains. Hopefully, they are able to find their way back.

Knocking on Heaven's Door

This is how the sky looked earlier this week in Hollister, as we walked out of Safeway. I'd never seen such a sight. The photo doesn't do it justice at all.
I'm participating in Skywatch Friday. Click here to see photos from around the world.

Dry!

I took this photo from the bench on the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail. A beautiful landscape, but so very dry. Rain, please!
In January 2012 I wrote a post about the lack of rain we were having. I can't recall last year at all. Maybe this dry season is a fluke. Maybe we're actually in a drought and the powers that be just don't want to tell us yet. Either way, it's time, if you haven't already, to start conservation practices. For water conservation tips, check out the Water Resources Association of San Benito County website.

Grubb Alley

Show of hands: Who knows where Grubb Alley is in downtown Hollister? Hmmmm.
That's where this fellow (the Husband) is standing? U-hem.

A Nice Sign of the Times

Have you noticed this agricultural sign on the east side of the Highway 25 bend just north of Santa Ana Road?
I've seen another sign in San Juan Valley. I hope more signs will be popping up throughout our county.
A close up on the sign shows that it's from the Ag in the Classroom project sponsored by the San Benito County Farm Bureau.
