That's the Diablo range to the east of Hollister. Doesn't it look like it's right behind the neighborhood? They're several miles away. By the way, that wall separates the neighborhood from Highway 25.
Hollister, California is a real town that has been around since the 1870s. Unlike the fictional town created by a corporate clothing company, Hollister is no where near a beach. The town is about 45 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Seagulls occasionally make their way over the mountains. Hopefully, they are able to find their way back.

Diablo Mountains
That's the Diablo range to the east of Hollister. Doesn't it look like it's right behind the neighborhood? They're several miles away. By the way, that wall separates the neighborhood from Highway 25.

Rain?
The other day, the Husband and I pedaled our bicycles by the tomato cannery. I felt very tiny droplets fall on me. I looked up. Ah! Tomato mist. The droplets even tasted a bit tomato-y.

Dark Clouds, But No Rain
We've been having strange weather. High temperatures with humidity, which you'd think would break into rain. Nope. Dark clouds passing through, which, again, you'd think would result in rain. Ha!
We can only hope that some of this weather may give us a surprise summer rain.

Illusions in Santa Ana Valley
Doesn't it look like the mountain is fenced off? And, that the mountain is quite nearby? For that matter, are those really mountain peaks?
I'm on Santa Ana Valley Road looking up at the Diablo Range through a fence, on which the other side rows of corn are growing.
See you tomorrow.

More than Just a Banner
A banner announcing a big-time coming event above San Benito Street is one of the things that reminds me, again, how Hollister is a friendly, sweet, and inviting community.

The 2015 Hollister Airshow
This year the spectacular Hollister Airshow will be on Father's Day Weekend again—June 20 and 21—at the Hollister Municipal Airport.
Aerobatic pilots Vicky Benzing, Spencer Suderman, and others will take to skies and perform such amazing death-defying maneuvers as loops, rolls, spins, and upside down flying. And, Kevin Walker of Fox 3 Jet Warbirds will demonstrate the power of a former jet trainer that was used in the Romanian Air Force. Among others scheduled to perform are pilots flying P-51 Mustang fighters and other warbirds.
Performing on land before the audience will be Jason Pullen and his colleagues, some very amazing motorcycle stunt riders.
The air show will also feature a display of historic and experimental aircraft, as well as a vintage car show. This year, it will have several kid zones that include a rock climbing wall, water rollers, a parachute rocket, and more.
The air show will have a raffle of terrific prizes including ground and flight lessons, tandem skydiving, a glider ride, and radio-controlled drones. The prize drawing will be on Sunday. Organizers say you don't need to be present to win.
For more information about the 2015 Hollister Airshow, visit its website or Facebook page.

Above Riverside Road
The last of the fog breaks over the hills above Riverside Road. Yet another short country lane to ride bicycles. It's only a few miles west of Downtown Hollister.

Looking Up from San Benito Street
This is an interestingly quirky, but pretty, view, don't you think? I'm standing near Wentz Alley, across from the biker mural. If you look at the right hand bottom corner of the photo, you can see a tiny bit of the mural.

The View from Seventh & West Streets
The Gabilan Range stands to the south and west of Hollister. When I'm downtown, I don't think of it being there because of the trees and the buildings being in the way. Then all of a sudden I get a peek of the mountains. Wow!

The View from the 3rd Base Burger Bar Patio
The Husband and I had breakfast at the 3rd Base Burger Bar after watching the Portuguese Festival parade this past Sunday morning. Yup, the beer and burger joint serves breakfast on the weekends.
It was perfect weather for eating out on the patio. As I first looked out at San Benito Street, I was reminded of Union Street in San Francisco. No. I wasn't drinking a beer or Bloody Mary.

The Hillsides of Santa Ana Valley
Are the hills of Santa Ana Valley, which is part of the Diablo Range, technically hills or mountains? I've often wondered.

Branch without a Tree
I like to take photos from the car while the Husband is driving. This one was from Highway 156, heading west, as we were nearing the 101 exit. The naked hills captured my interest. So, I was quite surprised when I opened this image on the computer to see the wind in the dry grass and a branch caught in the wires above the grass. Lucky me!

A Different View of Downtown Hollister
Just when I think I've photographed everything under the sun in downtown Hollister, I see this view. Don't you think that if the banner wasn't there, the photo could be of somewhere in Southern California?
By the way, that's the tower of the Porter House on Monterey and Sixth Streets.

Hollister Airshow Coming in June
Look, up in the sky! By the clock tower on Fourth and San Benito Streets.
Nope. No Superman. I just couldn't resist. But, it's a nice segue for the annual Hollister Airshow that will be on Father's Day weekend, June 20 and 21, 2015. Click here to go to the airshow's website for the details.

Not So Incongruous
Once upon a time, I thought it was weird to see palm trees outside of Southern California. Oaks, pines, and redwoods are part of our natural landscape and, of course, all the apricot, apple, walnut and all other fruit and nut orchards that once covered Hollister and San Juan Valley.
Then as I grew older, mourning the decimation of trees for progress, I accepted the sight of palm trees in Northern California. Like all living trees, they give us oxygen, shade, aesthetic pleasure, and hope. I still think it is weird to see them outside of Southern California. But, just a little bit.
How I ramble. The gorgeous conifer tree and palm trees in the photo stand along San Felipe Road on the north edge of Downtown Hollister.

Rain Clouds over Downtown Hollister
The weather has been beautiful the last several days that if it weren't for this photo I would've forgotten that we did have a few days of rain. Were the rain clouds gathering or breaking over Downtown Hollister? I can't recall. Hopefully, we'll have a lot more early spring rains to lessen the drought.
Today I'm hooking up with Skywatch Friday. Click here to check out the skies around the world.

An Elephant of a Branch
The magnolia tree (at least that's what I think it is) in the center of O'Neill Drive is humongous. But, I had no idea its branches were so thick and enormous. I wonder when the tree was planted.
Magnolia trees are native to Southeastern United States and can grow up to 100 feet tall. California doesn't have the rainfall that the South does, so the heartiest trees in the right conditions may reach 80 feet tall.
Click here to see a full shot of the evergreen tree on O'Neill Drive, which I took last March.
