A Puddy Cat

The other day, I was standing in front of the Porter House on Monterey Street, fantasizing yet again about having an office in the tower room. Then I gazed down to the front porch, which I also admire, when I saw something on the drying lawn.

I "taut I taw a puddy cat."

And, just as Tweety Bird said, "I did, I did. I did see a puddy cat."

If you'd like to know a bit of history about the Porter House and see a photo of the tower, please click here.

Today is Our World Tuesday, and that's where I'm hanging out. Come join me by clicking here.

A Mellow Yellow Topper

I think these are palm trees, but don't quote me on that. They called out to me to take a photo of them as I walked down the driveway at Four Winds Growers in Aromas earlier this year.

Today, I'm hanging out at Monday Mellow Yellows. I invite you to join me to check out mellow yellow posts from around the world.

Hiring in Hollister

Ah, the things you can see while taking a walk. I wonder why the band members decided this lamp post next to K-Mart would be a perfect place to put their help wanted sign.

Today Mrs. Nesbitt's ABC Wednesday features the letter H. Click here to check out what other bloggers have posted.

Look What's Growing on East Street

This lone volunteer tomato plant is growing up through the sidewalk on East Street, right next to the tomato cannery. Ha!

I'm taking part in ABC Wednesday. This week is the letter "E" as in East Street.

On Display at the Car Show

I get a kick out of the things that folks display inside their automobiles at car shows. Did you happen to see this snake and these figurines at the Hollister Street Festival & Car Show last Saturday?

They Might Say. . .

If this post and lamp could speak, would they say, "Take me to your leader."

Or, "Hey,  Dudes! Where's a good place for a beer? Want to join us?"

Cleverly Repurposed

Pretty cool bike basket, don't you think?

At first I thought it was a drum without its skin. Nope. The basket was made from bicycle wheel rims and spokes. Clever!

The bicycle was sitting outside Off the Chain Bikes at 101 McCray Street, Suite 101. By the way, the shop not only sells bicycles and bicycle accessories, but also purses, shoulder bags, backpacks, and other things made from recycled inner tubes, all designed by Robin Lucas. Check them out, the next time you're there. Until then, you can see samples at this web page.

A Gnarly Octopussy Tree

The trees in front of the old courthouse are definitely spindly and gnarly. I think it gives them character. This one makes me think of an octopus. What about you?

The Rock Faces of the Pinnacles

According to Cambridge Dictionaries online, the definition of rock face is "an area of vertical surface on a large rock or mountain."

To me, a rock face is a face—eyes, nose, mouth, and so on—that I see outlined in a rock. And, I see many rock faces in the Pinnacles National Park. How about you?

What Does It Resemble to You?

Does anyone else see the resemblance of the lamp section of the lamp posts downtown to Marvin the Martian?

And, no, I wasn't drunk when I looked at the lamp post in front of the Veterans' Memorial Building on Sunday afternoon. But, I was under the influence of all that great music I had just heard, which was performed by the Watsonville Community Band.

Taking an Afternoon Stroll

This cute dog was mopping up a lot of attention as he walked through the San Juan Bautista Fine Arts and Quality Crafts Festival a couple of weeks ago. Anyone else think he (or she) was sporting dreadlocks?

Loving the Rain

Yup.  I even enjoy watching the rainwater flow down the street.

When we were kids, we used to find worms in the gutter after a rain. We'd pick them up and throw them at each other as we waited for the school bus to pick us up and take us to Sunnyslope School. Ah, sweet memories.

I bet you  didn't know we have sleepy octopussy trees hanging out in our sweet town.

:-)

Ann Street

Does anyone know why Ann Street interrupts the flow of Briggs Alley?

Ann Street runs parallel to Fourth Street. It starts at West Street and ends at Winn Alley. It's less than half-a-block long. On the other side of Winn Alley is a parking lot. Directly across from Ann Street (at West Street) is Briggs Alley. This alley continues on the east side of Monterey Street.

I can't remember if someone told me or if I read that Ann Street was named for William Welles Hollister's wife. Anyone know for sure? And, for those who've forgotten or didn't know, Hollister was for whom our city was named, and the Hollisters lived where the court house stands today.

Muffler Art

This cute guy always makes me smile every time I pass by Hollister Muffler & Quick Lube on the corner of San Benito Street and South Street. Wouldn't you?

Two years ago, Hollister Muffler & Quick Lube
had this art work on display.

Cheap Seats Pub & Grub

"Hey, Husband! Did you know the awning is in the shape of a baseball hat?"

"Yes. You never noticed that?"

In the seven years or more that Cheap Seats Pub & Grub has been around, it never dawned on my that I have been looking at or walking under a very huge baseball cap. What it actually reminds me of are those nightclub awnings in the 1930s movies. Sometimes the obvious just goes over my head. I was in my 30s when I realized that the logo of the Shell Station is a shell. Duh.

Rrroarrrr!

Have you seen the four dinosaurs standing alongside the west side of San Felipe Road, next to the Swank Farms sign?

Rrroarrrr!
