Hollister, California is a real town that has been around since the 1870s. Unlike the fictional town created by a corporate clothing company, Hollister is no where near a beach. The town is about 45 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Seagulls occasionally make their way over the mountains. Hopefully, they are able to find their way back.

Onion Leftovers
The other day I posted a photo of an apple orchard in San Juan Valley. Across from it was this onion field, the crop already harvested. For whatever reasons, these onions didn't make the truck.
Agriculture is the number one industry in San Benito County. According to the 2010 Annual Crop Report of San Benito County, 23,793 tons of bulb onions were produced in 2010, which valued nearly $6.7 million.

that is a lot of onion. and plenty left behind too. is Gilroy anywhere near Hollister? That is where the garlics are and the whole town smells like garlic:)
ReplyDeleteHi oceangirl! Gilroy is 12 miles away. It's in a different county though. Not too many garlic fields there anymore. But, the garlic processing plant is. I like driving by it, especially when I get to the sweet spot where the garlic smells the heavenliest. drooool.
