This beautiful lantern, which stands in front of the City Hall, is a gift to Hollister from Takino, Japan. The two were sister cities for over 10 years.
According to Wikipedia, Takino merged with two other towns in 2006 to form a new city called Kato.

Looks a grand place to visit, thanks for the journey,

I'm glad you're enjoying the virtual trip, Yvonne. :-)
DeleteVery interesting! Which City Hall? Doesn't Hollister have several buildings labeled City Hall (and why?)?
ReplyDeleteHello Wonder Wanda,
DeleteThis is in front of the current Hollister City Hall next to the Methodist Church. The brick building several doors east of it (with CITY HALL blasted on its front) was the City Hall from around 1906 to 1960, according to this booklet I have of walking tours.
Those are the only 2 I know about. Any others, please let this curious mind know.
Interesting about the sister cities! Never would have guessed that
ReplyDeleteMe, too. That's one thing I like about doing this blog--learning new things all the time.
DeleteCool little factoid. I actually don't know much about Hollister, although I've come to know a bit about Disney World in the last 4 years. Is your area as sunny as mine?
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing you live in Florida. :-) Hollister is a sunny place. If it weren't for the ocean breeze coming through the pass, it would be unbearably hot here. Thanks for dropping by.
DeleteHi Su-sieee .. isn't the lantern wonderful - and a great gift from Japan .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI would presume this city in Japan also has a gift from Hollister? And if so, what do you think that would be?
